St. Mary is richly blessed with our families and children. We include our children and youth in the service in many ways. Younger children will often light the candles, turn on the cross light and bring up items such as the bible and altar cross in the procession. Older children (9 yrs and older) assist in the liturgy as altar servers. This is a slightly more formal role which is signaled by wearing vestments. Duties include being the crucifer (processing with the large cross at the front of the procession) and serving at the altar. Training is provided for this role. This can be a very formative experience for children, giving them some important responsibility and agency.
